Bone Graft

Bone grafting is usually a procedure that is associated with an extraction or implant procedure. The bone material is placed at the site to improve the amount of bone and the structure of the jaw. In the case of extractions, bone will be added to the site so that the bone that was surrounding the extracted tooth does not weaken. In the case of implants, bone material may be added to the implant site so that the area of implant will be more sturdy (see restorative procedures, implants).

The following impacted wisdom tooth was extracted and a bone graft was placed at the site. In the picture on the right you can see that the bone mateiral has integrated into the jaw, and instead of having a gap there is solid bone.
